Heartlog ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
When you use Heartlog, we may collect the following types of data:
Account Information:
Your email address and name when you sign up or sign in.
Usage Data:
Basic app usage events such as login activity and general analytics to help us improve the app experience.
AI Feature Metadata:
When you interact with the Amie chat feature, we do not store or log the chat messages you send or receive. However, we may collect limited technical metadata related to AI usage, such as token counts, request cost, and latency, to monitor system performance.
2. How We Use Information
We use the collected data to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Heartlog app.
- Authenticate and manage user accounts.
- Monitor app performance and ensure stability.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties.
We do not use your personal data to train AI models.
3. Data Storage and Security
- User data is securely stored using Firebase and related Google Cloud services.
- We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
- All data transmissions, including requests to AI models, occur over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS).
4. AI Chat Feature (Amie)
Heartlog's Amie AI chatbot is powered by OpenAI's API.
When you use Amie:
- Your chat messages are transmitted securely to OpenAI for processing so that responses can be generated.
- We may include limited contextual information from other parts of the app (such as user journal entries or preferences) to enhance the quality and relevance of responses.
- Heartlog does not save, log, or reuse any chat messages or AI responses.
- OpenAI may temporarily retain API data for up to 30 days for abuse detection and monitoring, after which it is deleted.
- Data sent to OpenAI via the API is not used to train their models.
By using the Amie chat feature or other AI-powered tools in Heartlog, you acknowledge that your input data will be processed by OpenAI to generate responses as described above.
5. Weekly Community Polls
Heartlog includes an optional weekly poll feature that lets you share a single anonymous response to a fun or reflective question about dating and relationships. Participation is entirely voluntary.
Here is exactly how your data is handled if you choose to respond:
- Opt-in only. You can skip any poll at any time. We never submit a response on your behalf.
- Your response is anonymous. Only the option you selected and a timestamp are stored. No name, no profile information, and no other personal data is attached to your poll response.
- Votes are aggregated server-side. Your individual response is never exposed to other users. What other users see is a summary of counts and percentages across all responses — compiled by our servers, not by the app. Individual responses are not readable by any client.
- Results require a minimum threshold. Aggregated results are only displayed once at least 10 people have responded to a given poll, providing an additional layer of privacy through anonymity-in-numbers.
- One vote per poll, no changes. To maintain the integrity of results, votes are locked once submitted and cannot be changed or retracted.
- Deleted on account deletion. If you delete your Heartlog account, your poll responses are automatically removed from our systems and the aggregate counts are adjusted accordingly.
- Not shared or sold. Aggregated poll results are displayed only within the Heartlog app. We do not share, sell, or export this data to any third parties.
6. Optional Sharing Features
Heartlog includes optional features that allow you to create shareable image cards from your data, such as date recap cards and monthly recap summaries. Here is how sharing works:
- Entirely user-initiated. Nothing is ever shared automatically. You must explicitly choose to create and send a shareable card.
- You control what's visible. Before sharing, you can toggle off personal details such as names, dates, locations, and notes. Only the information you choose to include appears on the shared image.
- Processed on your device. Shareable images are generated locally on your device. No data is sent to Heartlog's servers as part of the sharing process.
- Shared through your device. When you share a card, it is sent using your device's native sharing capabilities (e.g., iMessage, email, social media). Heartlog does not track, store, or have access to what you share or who you share it with.
You are solely responsible for the content you choose to share outside of the app.
7. Your Rights and Data Control
In compliance with GDPR and applicable data protection laws, you have the following rights:
Right to Access:
You can export all your data at any time directly within the app. Go to Settings → Data & Privacy → Export Your Data to download a complete copy of your information in JSON format.
Right to Deletion:
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time directly within the app. Go to Settings → Delete Account. This will irreversibly delete all your profile information, prospects, notes, dates, journal entries, and any poll responses from our systems.
Additional Support:
For any data-related requests or questions, you may use the in-app features or contact us through the app settings.
If you wish to avoid transmitting your data to OpenAI, you may choose not to use the AI-powered features within the app or disable Amie AI in your settings.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Updates will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Substantial changes will be communicated within the app or via email when applicable.
9. Contact
If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, you can contact us at heartlogdatingjournal@gmail.com or through the Support option in the app's Settings page.
